Zeb Lewis Tripp

April 18, 1947 — July 2, 2024

Zeb Lewis "Boots" Tripp, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded in love, on July 2, 2024, at the Carolina East Medical Center. Born in Craven County on April 17, 1947, Boots lived a life marked by generosity and dedication to the people and passions that filled his heart.

Zeb is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Cheryl Tripp, who was his partner in every sense and his greatest supporter. He also leaves behind his devoted sister, Ida Chapman; his daughters, Angela Easter (Johnny Helms), and Rebecca Easter (Tim Davis). His favorite role was that of Poppa to his grandchildren, Brice and Sadie Helms, Benjamin and Noah Smyser, and his great-grandson, Liam Tripp Smyser. His family circle also encompasses many cousins, including Audrey Toler and Dewey (Linda) Tripp of Vanceboro, North Carolina. He is survived by his best friend, Lester Craig Cannon. Boots was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Brock Tripp, and his beloved niece, Shannon Chapman.

Zeb often spoke of his early days as a bakery worker and his work as a law enforcement officer but excelled in his lifelong career as an aviation sheet metal mechanic and eventually as a quality assurance specialist. His professional life was marked by attention to detail and a steadfast commitment to excellence. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing trips to the pond, and action/adventure movies over buttered popcorn. Boots also found camaraderie and purpose in his association with the AF&AM, where his contributions were deeply valued by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

A man of many interests, Zeb was an avid fisherman, finding solace and joy in nature. His love for animals was evident to those who knew him, and he often spent his time caring for and enjoying the company of his pets. He also had a passion for automotive restoration and enjoyed bringing classic vehicles back to their former glory. He was the kind of man who would offer help before it was requested and who found joy in the happiness of others. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt.

In his passing, Boots has been reunited with those who went before him, and we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace. As we remember him, we reflect on the joy he brought into the world and the countless lives he enriched. May his journey onward be as fulfilling as the one he shared with us here.
