Obituary MSgt William Byron Williams, 70, USMC (Ret) of Newport, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Carteret Health Care. His graveside funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 12:00 NOON on Friday, September 29, 2017, at Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC. William was born in Augusta, GA on June 8, 1947, to Edward Byron and Sarah Kitchens Williams, and proudly served more than 20 years in the U. S. Marine Corps. After he retired from the Marine Corps, he was the Chief of Public Safety for the State Museum in Columbia, SC and also worked at Portside Marina in Morehead City. He is survived by his mother, Sarah LaFavor of Augusta, GA; son, GySgt William B. Williams, Jr., USMC (Ret) of Newport; daughter, Melanie Salata, and husband, Matthew, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; brother, Robert L. Williams of Augusta, GA; grandchildren, Joseph, Sydney and Michael; and a number of nieces and nephews He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Rae M. Williams and his father, Edward Byron Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the American Humane Society, 1400 16th Street, NW, Suite 360, Washington, DC 20036.
