William Guy Heap, a dedicated public servant and cherished family man, passed away on November 19, 2024 at the age of 81. Born on January 26, 1943, in Washington, D.C., William's life was a testament to his commitment to his community and his family.
He served with distinction as an Auxiliary Deputy for Shenandoah County, Virginia, where he earned the respect of many through his unwavering dedication. His compassion extended beyond his law enforcement duties, as he also worked as a special needs driver for Shenandoah County, demonstrating a deep commitment to helping others. Among his proudest accomplishments was receiving the Carnegie Hero Fund Award in 1994, a recognition awarded for his bravery in saving a baby from a fire, an act that exemplified his selflessness and courage.
William is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Boyce Heap, with whom he shared twenty-nine and a half wonderful years. He was a devoted stepfather to Brandi Lee Wetzel and Elizabeth Ann Lambert, who will remember his guidance and support. He took great joy in being a grandfather to Autumn Jade Heap, as well as three step-grandsons and two step-granddaughters, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength.
His siblings, Pastor Robert B. Heap, Jr., and sister-in-law Nancy Heap, were a source of support and pride in his life. William will be remembered not only for his professional service but also for the warmth and love he brought to his family and friends.
William was preceded in death by his parents, Robert B. Heap, Sr. and Ivy Noreen Pugh Heap, as well as his beloved daughter, Dena Marie Heap, and son, Christopher Wayne Heap. Their memories lived on in his heart and shaped the compassionate person he became.
As we reflect on the life of William Guy Heap, we celebrate a man whose actions defined him as a hero in his community and a beloved figure in his family. His legacy of service, bravery, and love will endure in those who had the privilege of knowing him.
