William Harvey, Jr

March 5, 1947 — March 18, 2015

Obituary William Suggs Harvey, Jr., March 5, 1947 ~ March 18, 2015, of Beaufort, the son of William S. and Ann Oglesby Harvey, brother of John, Steve, and Ann, Billy grew up in Kinston where he worked with his father as a general contractor until he moved to Beaufort in 1992 and began his own construction business. His happiest memories were of childhood summers spent boating, fishing, clamming, roasting oysters, and feasting on fresh corn and tomatoes with his Oglesby grandparents and cousins at Twin Oaks on Bogue Sound. Billy's passion for boating, sailing, fishing, The Cape, and all things coastal brought him great joy all his life. He was a dedicated environmentalist who served on the boards of Carteret County Crossroads and Friends of the Maritime Museum, and as chair of the Beaufort Planning Board. Billy is survived by his wife, Jane; son William S. Harvey III and his wife Kristy Woodson Harvey; daughter Dorothy Harvey Coleman and her husband Taylor Coleman; three grandsons, Will IV, George, and Sam; his beloved siblings Steve and Ann; his nieces, nephews, and Harvey and Oglesby cousins; and by Jane's children Brooks and Bonner who respected his wisdom and delighted in his sense of humor. He lit up the lives of those he loved and we will be keepers of his light. Billy requested no funeral or memorial service. Instead, he suggested that we spend time listening to some Dylan tunes and thinking about the meaning of our own lives, not his. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. A U.S. Navy veteran and a true friend of Mother Ocean, Billy will be buried at sea. Services will be announced at a later date Services You can still show your support by sending flowers directly to the family, or by planting a memorial tree in the memory of William Harvey, Jr
