Obituary 1-888-579-7953 Code: 2002089P William David Barrington, Jr., of Newport, North Carolina, has passed from among us. No services. Born January 23, 1923, in Boston, Massachusetts, Bill Barrington was 94 years of age. A peripatetic youth had Bill Barrington move from New England, to Carolina and later New York. He graduated from Peekskill, N.Y. High School in 1941 and served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After the War, he attended Boston University, receiving his bachelors degree in Business. Married in 1948 to Barbara Lundberg, they shared a devoted life together until her death in 2012. The Barringtons lived in Carlisle, Mass., while Bill started a tree and landscape company in Lexington. With good looks and a smooth Carolina drawl, Bill Barrington walked down among the leafy mansions of Brattle Street to sell his skills to the Brahmins of Cambridge. Barrington Tree and Landscape was a huge success. As a former military man, Barrington ran his company with crisp, authoritative command. A fleet of small trucks was painted dark forest green. "Idle the trucks at minimum choke until the temperature gauge reaches the operating range." But for all the necessities of being a tough boss, work at the Barrington Company was never a dirge. Always a lively and generous host, Bill presided over the company clambakes, lining a full fire pit with seaweed to bake clams, corn and lobsters in the old Cape Cod style. And horseshoes and football and beer. After a long career in the tree and landscape business; municipal contracting and later, trucking, Barrington retired to the North Carolina coast, where he lived out his days refurbishing antique military vehicles, fishing and relaxing. He is survived by his son, Robert "Ton" Barrington of Raleigh, daughter, Candy Barrington-Dyer, also of Newport; several grandchildren, a great-grandchild and two great-great children. May he rest in eternal peace.
