Walter Moore

Obituary Walter Walker Moore, 78, of Newport, NC, formerly Neversink, NY, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, in Fredericksburg, VA while visiting his daughter and her family. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. John B. Carlisto officiating. He was born in Beaufort, NC on August 6, 1936 to Walter Sheldon Moore and Dolly Bell Willis Moore. Mr. Moore was a graduate of East Carolina University where he received an A.B. Degree in biology and chemistry in 1958 as well as a M.A. Degree in 1965. He completed graduate work in biology at North Carolina State University, post-graduate work in chemistry at Capital University, marine biology at Bowdoin College, and oceanography at Gulf Coast Research Institute. He served in the United States Navy and was employed by Borg-Warner Acceptance Corporation in Charlotte, NC as a District Field Representative, Beaufort Graded School as a Algebra, Business, Biology, General Science, and Physics Teacher, Havelock High School, Havelock, NC as a Biology Teacher and Assistant Principal, and Sullivan County Community College in South Fallsburg, NY as a Professor of Science. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Mason Moore; daughter Nancy Micki Shannon and husband, Chuck, of Fredericksburg, VA; sons, James Joe Moore and wife, Lynn, of Grahamsville, NY and Walter A. Moore and wife, Kathy, of Liberty, NY; sister, Mary Sue Crowe of Clinton, MS; brothers, Richard S. Moore and wife, Shirley, of Jacksonville, NC and Cecil M. Moore and wife, LaGrande, of Havelock, NC; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, 100 Big Rock Weigh, Newport, NC 28570.
