Obituary Dr. Walter (Mac) Jones McLendon, Jr., 75, of Beaufort died Monday, February 27, 2017, at Carteret Health Care, Morehead City. A celebration of his life will be held at Brooks Funeral home on Wednesday, March 1, from 6:00 8:00 p.m. He was born May 8, 1941 in Mullins, SC to Dr. Walter Jones and Edith Lane McLendon. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College, received his Masters Degree from East Carolina University and Doctorate from North Carolina State University. He taught school at Indian Trail Public School in Union County and was an Associate Professor at East Carolina University, College of Education. He formerly lived in Mullins, SC, Charlotte, Roanoke, Oakboro, Greenville and Morehead City, NC. He was a member of the Mars Hill College Varsity Basketball Team, coached East Carolina Mens and Womens Golf Teams, coached Beaufort Middle School Boys and Girls Golf Teams, was an avid golfer and Carolina basketball fan. He is survived by his wife, Janet Salter McLendon of Beaufort; children, Deborah McLendon Abernathy and husband Reed Abernathy of Greenville, Ginger McLendon Vithalani and husband Dr. Roger Vithalani of Greenville; stepchildren, Cindy Przygodzinski Lewis and husband Stanley Lewis of Beaufort and Joseph Walter Przygodzinski of Atlantic Beach; grandchildren, Scott Abernathy, Layne Abernathy, Jason Abernathy, Drew Vithalani, Caroline Vithalani all of Greenville, Aaron Lewis, Joseph Lewis and Wyatt Lewis all of Beaufort and Oliver Przygodzinski of Beaufort and Atlantic Beach; siblings; Dr. Lennox McLendon of Charlotte and Wallace McLendon of Chapel Hill as well as a large extended family.
