Virginia 'Ginny' Welton

Obituary Virginia "Ginny" R. Welton, 100, of Beaufort, died Friday, December 22, 2017, at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Ginny was born in Ford City, PA, on August 9, 1917, to William Clair and Margaret Lemmon Ramer. She was a lady of "spunk," had a great sense of humor, an avid reader and always mentally alert. She lived in Pennsylvania, married the love of her life, Bill Fleckenstein, right before WW II, and after the war, lived in New Jersey. They later returned to PA, where her husband joined his family's business. Ginny's husband, and the father of their three young children, died suddenly (September, 1953) and Ginny became the stronger because of it. Sometime later, she married again, and moved south, finding a new life in Raleigh. There Ginny was a member of the Medfield Ladyslipper Garden Club and helped to win blue ribbons at the NC State Fair on numerous occasions. She became a Master Gardener and was actively involved with the Master Gardeners' group in activities and fund raising. There is an annual award given in her name each year by the Master Gardeners. Ginny was also an active member of Ann Street Methodist Church, having worked behind the scenes in helping the ladies of the church with many different activities. Ginny is survived by her son, William Moore Fleckenstein, of Florida; daughter, Elizabeth Jeanne Patterson of Pennsylvania; and son, Thomas Mark Fleckenstein, of Beaufort; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ginny is preceded in death by her husbands, William Moore Fleckenstein, and Harry William Welton, and a step-brother, Paul Clayton Artman. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, December 26, 2017, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Brooks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Ann Street United Methodist Church, Beaufort, NC, with the pastors the Rev. Taylor Mills, and the Rev. Rusty Willis officiating.
