Her memorial service will be held at St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Havelock LCMS on Saturday, July 13, at 10:00 am. Burial will held at 1:00 pm at Gethsemane Memorial Park, Newport, NC. She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Carl Sepmeyer of Morehead City; son Arthur Carl Sepmeyer and wife Atsuko of Redondo Beach, CA; daughter Eileen Sepmeyer Dunlap and husband David of Charlotte, NC; grandson Evan Sepmeyer of Los Angeles, CA; granddaughter Lauren Dunlap of Charlotte, NC; sister June Gieseke Anders and husband Gerald; sister Dorothy Gieseke Stewart and husband Robert; brother Merle Gieseke; and cousin Lucille Steiner, all of Fairmont, MN; brother-in-law David Lenort; sister-in-law Ruth Caswell of Collinsville, Il; and many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. Viola was born August 18, 1925 in Fairmont, MN to the late Herman Dick Gieseke and Anna Johnson Gieseke. She was graduated from the one-room District 80 school house and later from Fairmont High School. She entered the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps at the Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN and was graduated on October 12, 1946. Nursing care was so vital to the war effort that the U.S. Congress funded this training program for nurses. The program was authorized and signed into law in July of 1943. Over 124,000 women graduated from participating nursing schools all over the country and became registered nurses. She became a registered nurse on January 16, 1947 in Minnesota. At the end of WWII, she wanted to see the United States, so she traveled, working as an RN in Minnesota, Texas, Washington, Illinois, Georgia and North Carolina. She met Carl Sepmeyer in Bandera, Texas at a dude ranch, dancing together and riding horses. His Bandera sweetheart, she married Carl and they later moved to Morehead City in 1956, raising their two children. She worked at Morehead Hospital, then Carteret General and retired as an RN after 47 years in various nursing fields. She was the first recovery room nurse for Carteret General Hospital (now Carteret Health Care). She and Carl are founding members of St. Pauls Lutheran Church Havelock, which has recently celebrated 62 years since the first church service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Norman Gieseke and her sister Evelyn Gieseke Lenort; sister-in-law Marion Gieseke and brother-in-law Robert Caswell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
