Obituary Umphis "Lee" Brown, LtCol, USMC, Ret., 78, of Pine Knoll Shores, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Harborview Rehabilitation Center, after battling lung cancer. A memorial service with military honors will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Bogue Banks Baptist Church, with pastor Stephen Bath and Rev. Patrick Williams presiding. Lee was born in Portsmouth, Arkansas to Umphis and Ola Lee Brown on November 18, 1937. He proudly served his country, enlisting in the US Marine Corps as a Private in 1955. He was selected to attend Officers Candidate School and became an Officer. Serving in various capacities, he retired in 1994 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Q. Brown; 3 children, Lee Fitzpatrick, Dana Fitzpatrick and Lisa Freeman; two step-children, Mark Gainor, and Andrew Gainor; seven grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild.
