Obituary Tyler Owen Guist, 24, of Newport, died Saturday, November 14, 2015. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Brooks Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Supplee, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, Newport, officiating. He was born September 17, 1991, in Morehead City, to Michael Randolph Guist and Joetta Elizabeth Cricket Guist. Tyler was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and became an Eagle Scout through Boy Scout Troop 61, Newport. He was a graduate of Croatan High School and Craven Community College with a degree in Aviation Systems Technology. Tyler worked as an aircraft mechanic for Republic Airways in Kansas City, Missouri. He is survived by his parents Mike and Cricket Guist of Newport; a daughter Katherine Elizabeth Katie Beth Guist of Newport; a brother Travis Guist of Newport; paternal grandfather Kenneth E. Guist of Oxford; and a maternal grandmother Omma Joan Avery of Newport. Tyler is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Guist, his maternal grandfather, Willis L. Avery, Jr., and his uncle, Lee Avery.
