Tolsie Lewis

April 22, 1928 — March 1, 2024

Tolsie Lewis, 95, of Morehead City, passed away Friday, March 1, 2024, at her home.

Tolsie Lee Willis Lewis was born on April 22, 1928 to Martha Ann and Keithly Willis. She was born and raised in the Promise Land by her hard-working parents, Keithly who worked for Tide Water Power and her mother Martha Ann.

Tolsie had many stories to share of her life growing up, from going to Alice Laughton’s for cow's cream or walking down 20th Street past Calico Creek to pick vegetables. When she was older, she had a paper route. She would recall delivering papers past the “white dock” and down Evans Street. As a teenager she volunteered at the USO on Evans Street supporting the troops in WWII. Later as a young adult she worked at Dom's making burgers.

After her marriage, and later the birth of her son Leinster Keith, she was a homemaker providing care for her family. She volunteered at school as well as supporting the little league teams and the WCHS band. She was a faithful member of Franklin Memorial Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and helped with meals and church projects through her years. She had a compassion for others and was always ready to help others in need.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Franklin Memorial Methodist Church on Morehead City with Pastor Donald Thomas officiating.  Burial will follow at Bayview Cemetery in Morehead City. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Leinster M. Lewis; mother, Martha Ann Arthur Willis; father, Keithly Willis; sister, Harriett Willis Howe; and brother, Ernest “Ebb” Willis.

She leaves behind her son Leinster Keith Lewis and wife Rebecca; two grandchildren, William M. Lewis and Delphia G. Lewis, as well as two nieces, Sheri Hope Lewis and Kimberly Daniels.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Franklin Memorial Methodist Church or the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House.
