Thomas O'Loughlin

Obituary Thomas J. OLoughlin, 89, of Newport, North Carolina and formerly of Lakeville, Connecticut, passed away on November 4, 2015 at his sons home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Lakeville, CT. The interment will follow at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery, Salisbury, CT. Mr. OLoughlin was born in Sharon, Connecticut in July of 1926 to the late Thomas J. O'Loughlin and Elizabeth L. Simmons OLoughlin. He served his country in WWII and the Korean War. In WWII his ship was hit by a Japanese Kamikaze plane. He worked for the US Postal Service for 25 years in Lakeville, Connecticut. After his retirement in 1986 he was part owner of a catering company. He and his wife Kay also owned a specialty advertising company. Tom is survived by three children; daughter, Catherine and her husband, Bob (Bullet) Sherwood, of Salisbury, CT; a son, Thomas (Tim) J. OLoughlin and his wife, Ann, of Newport; daughter, Karen and her husband, Mark Ligi, of Newport. He is additionally survived by one sister, Una Couture and her husband, Bob, of Dover Plains, NY and five grandchildren: William, Thomas, and Jessica Sherwood, Amanda OLoughlin and Dylan Ligi as well as five great-grandchildren Jase, Abby, Joey, Colin, and Jaycob Sherwood. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife Katharyn Crane OLoughlin, two sisters Elisabeth L. OLoughlin and Catherine E. Jenks, and his grandson Joseph Sherwood. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Saturday, November 7, from 6:00 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Egbert Catholic Church, 1706 Evans Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.
