Obituary Thomas Howard Bowen, 61, of Beaufort died Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 5, at Brooks Funeral Home with the Rev. Taylor Mills, Rev. Jim Reed and Rev. CJ Bowen officiating. The interment will follow at Ocean View Cemetery. He was born March 17, 1955 in Morehead City to Aaron Thomas and Rosemary Bessent Bowen. After graduating from East Carteret High School in 1973 he entered the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1975. He loved to fish and loved the water. He was kind, compassionate, generous and loved by his family. He was a true southern gentleman who was the best friend you could have. He is survived by his mother, Rosemary B. Garrish of Beaufort; sister, Kathryn B. Reed and husband Jim of Washington, NC; brothers, Christopher L. Bowen and wife Margo of Chapel Hill and Robert D. Bowen of Taylorsville, NC; 16 nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his father, his sister-in-law, Robin R. Bowen, preceded him in death. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ann Street United Methodist Church, 417 Ann Street, Beaufort, NC 28516.
