Theresa Sowa

Obituary Theresa Lynn Sowa, (nee Selvitelle) 63, of Newport died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Crystal Coast Hospice House. Funeral services and visitation are limited to the family Theresa was born in Camp Lejeune to LtCol Benjamin B. Selvitelle, and Jacquelyn Odom Selvitelle. Theresa Sowa was relentlessly curious, seemingly powered by childlike wonder. She brought the mystic, color, and art into her life and gifted it to others in the doing. She was unique to the Selvitelle family. We have all been changed by knowing her and she will be remembered and missed by all. As a Marine brat she traveled east to west throughout the United States, to the islands of Hawaii and Newfoundland before finally settling in Newport, North Carolina. A graduate of West Carteret High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, her immeasurable love of animals drove her early aspirations in becoming a veterinarian, serving as an assistant to several clinics. Ultimately, she worked as a laboratory technician at Carteret Health Care for several years before landing at SSC Soft Computer, implementing laboratory and healthcare systems in hospitals across the country. She was deeply proud of her work and touched many lives. She is survived by her loving husband, Ted Sowa of Newport; one daughter, Amy Lewis, of New Port Richey, Florida; two grandchildren, Burke and Ally Lewis of Port Richey; and two brothers, Michael and Ben Selvitelle.
