Obituary Thelma Memakis Barnette, 80, of Morehead City died Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House with her family by her side. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. E. Powell Osteen officiating. The interment will follow at Bayview Cemetery. Beloved mother of three, she was born April 14, 1937 in Morehead City to John and Katina Memakis. Mrs. Barnette was a 1955 graduate of Morehead City High School and attended the University of North Carolina Womens College in Greensboro. She married Larry Evan Barnette on June 6, 1958 at First United Methodist Church, Morehead City. She never let her 30 year battle with cancer get in the way of living life to the fullest. Loved by all, she remains in our hearts and minds forever. She is survived by her husband, Larry Evan Barnette; son, John Bateman Barnette and wife Alisa of Charlotte; daughter, Lisa Paige Barnette Mungin and husband Mike of Virginia Beach, VA; sister, Jennie M. Galantis of Morehead City; grandchildren, Taylor Barnette, Kaitlyn Barnette and Evan Mungin; niece, Nikki Galantis of Morehead City. In addition to her parents, her son, Mark Evan Barnette, preceded her in death. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 27, from 5:00 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carteret Health Care Foundation for Cancer Services, P.
