Susan Haskett

Susan Rae Haskett, known affectionately to all as Susan, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2023, in Newport, NC after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on January 15, 1967, in Norfolk, VA, Susan was a woman of adventure, creativity, and courage, whose love for life was infectious to all who knew her.


Susan was the beloved daughter of Floyd Pete Stone and Lucy Marie Etheridge Stone, both of whom predeceased her. She was also predeceased by siblings, Randy Stone and Sandra Ayers Kennard. Susan is survived by her brother, Floyd “Alvin” Stone of Virginia. She was the cherished wife of Bobby R. White, and the proud and loving mother of daughters, Shelbi C. Haskett, married to Dallas Gaynor Jr., and Kelsey L. Thompson, married to Cameron Thompson. Susan was also a doting grandmother to Anthony Ruble, Cathrine Tedder, Brayden Sandersen, Skyla Sullivan, Jackson Gaynor, Grace Thompson, and Faith Thompson.


In her early years, Susan was a truck driver, a testament to her adventurous spirit. She later became a skilled cabinet maker, showcasing her creativity and craftsmanship. Her love for nature and beauty led her to become a florist, and she spent her later years as a residential painter, bringing color and joy into people's homes.


Susan's interests were as varied and vibrant as her personality. She was a flower and plant enthusiast, her home often resembling a beautiful, living greenhouse. She was an avid bird watcher, finding peace and joy in the simple act of observing nature. Fishing and shellfishing were among her favorite pastimes, and she was always ready for a trip to the beach, her love for the ocean being a constant in her life. Susan had a soft spot for stray cats, often befriending and caring for them. She also enjoyed traveling, always eager to explore new places. Thrift shopping was another of her hobbies, as she had a knack for finding hidden treasures.


In the face of adversity, Susan remained strong and courageous, inspiring those around her with her resilience. Her creative spirit shone through in everything she did, from her work to her hobbies, and her adventurous nature led her to live a life full of excitement and exploration.


Susan's passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but her memory will live on, as vibrant and beautiful as the life she led. Her family and friends will remember her as a beacon of strength, creativity, and adventure, and her spirit will continue to inspire them in the years to come.
