Susan A. Bankson, 77, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, North Carolina.
Born in Oakland, California, Susan spent much of her life in Contra Costa County, California, where she met her husband and raised her family. She shared nearly 57 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, William “Bill” Bankson. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Susan cherished her family deeply and left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Susan had a remarkable 34-year career with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), where she made history in 1975 as one of the first two women electricians ever hired by the company. Her trailblazing spirit and dedication to her work left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire.
In her leisure time, Susan embraced a variety of hobbies that reflected her vibrant personality and zest for life. She found joy in gardening, golfing, bass fishing, crafting, horseback riding, and raising and showing dogs.
Susan is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Bankson of Morehead City; her son, Michael H. Bankson and his wife Emily of Morehead City; her daughter, Randi Barclay and her husband Chris of Rohnert Park, California; four grandchildren: Alyssa, Andrew, William, and Jacob; and two great-grandchildren: Lilly and Mia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Billie Jo and Hubert Harris; her sisters, Pamela Harris and Vickie Menzhuber; and her nephew Brian Westmacott.
Susan's life was a testament to love, perseverance, and passion. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
The family will honor Susan’s memory in a private celebration of life. A second celebration of life will be planned at a later time for family and friends located in California.
