Stephanie Francene (Mayer) Garrett, age 75, of Morehead City, NC, formerly of Clarksburg, WV passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024, following a brief illness at Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
Stephanie was born on February 7, 1949, in Clarksburg, WV. She was the oldest child and only daughter of the late Francis S. "Soupy" and Dorothy E. (Brown) Mayer. Stephanie grew up a proud sister to three younger brothers. She graduated from Washington Irving High School in 1967 and was a member of the band, playing flute. She went onto college to pursue nursing. Stephanie decided that nursing was not for her and instead began her professional career for the state of West Virginia. She was employed with the State of WV as the manager of the WVABCA and for the WV Division of Highways where she retired after 37 years of service.
On January 24, 1976, Stephanie married the love of her life, Kenneth Nelson “Punky” Garrett, who preceded her in death on December 18, 1999. The couple enjoyed almost 24 years of marriage.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister-in-law, Barbara G. “Barbi” Mayer and nephew Scott Mayer.
Stephanie was a member of the Broad Oaks United Methodist Church. She enjoyed being outside soaking up the sunshine and going to the beach. She loved to read Danielle Steel novels and yellow roses were her favorite. She lived life to the fullest and fiercely loved her family. She was a loving wife, sister, mom, mother-in-law, aunt and an especially jubilant Grammi! Stephanie made sure to tell everyone that would listen about her daughters and grandchildren. She often told them how proud she was of them. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling to sporting events, competitions, recitals, and school programs to watch her grandchildren perform, compete and play. When she could not be in attendance she would tune in to the livestreams, Gamechanger, or radio to watch or listen. She was never late to an event, always arriving an hour early. She loved Christmas more than anything, always giving more presents than you could count. Stephanie was fond of Elvis Presley and did things her way. She had an affection for dogs and when younger would always bring home the strays. She will be sadly missed by her fur baby, Bella.
A graveside service will take place at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Mt. Clare, WV with a celebration of life to follow. Arrangements for this celebration are still pending.
