Sid Thrasher

Obituary Sid Thrasher, 87, of Morehead City, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Carteret General Hospital. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Max Murphy, Dr. Steve Creech, and Rev. Mike Barefield officiating. The interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Sid was born in Akron, Ohio on December 16, 1926 to William Rubert and Ione Clara Deaton Thrasher, but moved with his family to Buford, Georgia at an early age. He graduated from the University of Georgia and was a strong supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs. He and his wife moved to Morehead City in 1981, and became members of Havelock Nazarene Church. Sid loved playing golf, boating and traveling in his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jenny; nephew, Stewart McElwaney, niece, Renee McElwaney and great nephew, Tucker McElwaney, all of Clearwater Beach, Florida. His parents preceded him in death. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
