"Shorty" Etharay Jefferson

“Shorty” Etharay Jefferson, 70, of Newport, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Carteret Health Care of Morehead City.

Ethrary was born December 16, 1952 to the parents Willie and Naomi Jefferson. He attended Palm Beach County schools and received his GED later in life from Carteret Community College. Ethrary/Shorty moved to North Carolina over forty years ago to be with his oldest sister, Nellie Robinson, whom he loved dearly. He worked at Morehead City Dodge detailing cars and he also did masonry/concrete work all over Carteret and Craven County. Etharay /Shorty was the life of the party wherever he went, he was known for his laughter, stories, his love to cook, scrapping, cardplaying and trash talking. He was fondly known to some as “double deck” and to others “Shorty”. Etharay loved his family and friends. He spent countless hours with his nieces and nephews trying to teach them life lessons.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church of Newport with Reverend Glen Otis Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Morehead City. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 to 1:00 at the church.

He is survived by his son, Corey Crockett and wife, Ikema of West Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Tamiya, Corey Jr., Jayden, Jada, and Raven; two great grandchildren, Ava and Milan; sister, Ann Robinson and husband, Venny of Morehead City; sister, Doris Scott and husband, David of Augusta, GA; brother, Willie Ralph Jefferson of Newport; brother, James C. Williams of Rivera Beach, FL; sister, Gloria Walker of Rivera Beach, FL; sister, Pauline Ferguson of Rivera Beach, FL; brother, Donald Williams and wife, Sheryl of West Palm Beach, FL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Naomi Jefferson; brother, Grady Jefferson, brother, Jerry Williams, sister, Cassandra Edwards.
