Sharon M. Yorke

September 26, 1950 — August 23, 2024

Sharon Moore Yorke, 73, passed away suddenly on August 23, 2024 in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Sharon was born on September 26, 1950 in Rochester, NY. She is the wife of Thomas Yorke of Lakewood Ranch. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.

Growing up in Rochester, Sharon attended Saint Helen’s elementary school and Saint Agnes high school where she thrived under the tutelage of the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The family spent every summer and most holidays at the family home place in Marshallberg, NC with her Gilikin and Nelson relatives and friends. Her surviving “Down East” teenage friends are still dear friends today.

Sharon continued her studies at East Carolina University and later graduated from the State University of New York at Brockport. This would lay the groundwork for her lifelong pursuit of knowledge and service.

Sharon’s Aunt Mary Reilich sent Sharon at age 12 and her 2 brothers to experience a short flight from Rochester NY to Buffalo. That is when Sharon decided on her career as a flight attendant.

Sharon did embark on a remarkable career as an international flight attendant with Northwest Airlines which merged with Delta Airlines dedicating 44 years in the skies. Her commitment to her colleagues was exemplary. As chairman of the flight attendant union hotel committee for 18 years in addition to flying full schedules, Sharon and/or her committee members inspected all hotels being considered by the airline for crew layovers worldwide, earning the appreciation of flight attendants and pilots.

Sharon loved going to daily mass on all of her airline layovers including the Vatican and other famous cathedrals and local churches around the world. Sharon was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Lakewood Ranch.

In addition to her husband, Tom, Sharon is survived by her brother William Kelly Moore, her Aunt Eileene Wilkin, cousins Joseph Wilkin, Maureen Wilkin, Frank Krusz and Bridgette Wallace who was like a daughter to Sharon, and inlaws Kathryn Yorke Wilson (and Page), Edward Yorke III (and Kathe), Margaret Mead Vitolo and many nieces, nephews and cousins all who cherish her memory and grieve her passing. She was proceeded in death by her parents William Vincent Moore and Thelma Gillikin Moore, her brother Dennis Moore, Aunt Mary Reilich, and Uncle Paul Moore.

Sharon devotion to the blessed mother characterize the portrait of her prayerfulness. She enjoyed praying, traveling, reading novels and boating with Tom.

Despite chronic pain, she remained steadfast. Kindness, spirited dedication to her career and unwavering faith in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ were her highest attributes. We remember her with dearest love.
