Newport

Scot "Scooter" Alan Whitfield, a cherished educator and devoted family member, passed away on February 6, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on November 1, 1958, Scot's life was a tapestry of laughter, learning, and love.

As a happy, fun-loving school teacher, Scot dedicated his life to nurturing the minds and spirits of his students. His vibrant personality and enthusiasm for education left an indelible mark on the lives of those he taught. Beyond the classroom, he had a profound connection with the sea. For forty-five years, he proudly owned a boat named "Gale Anne." His love for this vessel was evident as he skillfully transitioned from mate at the age of fourteen, to captain by eighteen, and ultimately to master captain by the age of twenty-one. His time spent working on "Gale Anne" was filled with adventures and lifelong memories.

Scooter is survived by his loving brother, Walter Whitfield, Jr., and sister-in-law Maxine June Whitfield, of Davisburg, MI; his beloved daughter, Emilie Karin Filipek and son-in-law Michael David Filipek, of Springfield, NJ; and his loving partner of six years, Laura Landi, of Morehead City, NC. He will also be dearly remembered by three nieces, one nephew, and a special great niece and nephew residing in Michigan.

Scot was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Whitfield, Sr., and Clemmie Whitfield, who hailed from Greenville and Harkers Island.

His legacy as a teacher and captain will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a wealth of cherished memories that will forever remain etched in the hearts of his family and friends.
