Sam Guthrie

Obituary Sam H. Guthrie, 97, of Morehead City died Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House, Newport. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 2, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. E. Powell Osteen, Jr. officiating. He was born April 19, 1919 in Morehead City to Auldin and Essie Curtis Guthrie. He was the owner of S. H. Guthrie Realty Company, past commissioner of Morehead City, and conductor of a local band. Mr. Guthrie was also a longtime announcer at West Carteret High School football games and Sunday school superintendent at First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his daughters, Donna Guthrie Hilbert of Newport and Connie Daniels of Morehead City; son, Sammy H. Guthrie, Jr. and his fianc Paden Hines of Morehead City; grandchildren, Michelle Siner and husband Trey of Concord, NC, Tania Byrne and husband Eric of Denver, CO, Sammy H. Guthrie, III and wife Sarah of Morehead City, Tiffany Sutton of Newport and Cameron Guthrie of New Bern; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Bailey Siner, Caroline and Blythe Byrne, Ashton, Sammy and Makali Guthrie, Alexis and Jayden Comer; dear friend, Frank Swanson of Wilmington and a large extended family. He is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Ross Guthrie; brothers, Roy and Francis Guthrie and sister, Violet Langdale. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 7:00 p.m. Flowers are welcome.
