Rose Flannagan

October 30, 1924 — April 26, 2024

Mary Rosabelle “Rose” Cronin Flannagan, 99, of Morehead City passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at home.


A celebration of life service will be held at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church in Henderson, NC on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.


Rose was born to Ethel Bernshouse and Robert Clinton Cronin Jr. on October 30, 1924, in Harford County, Maryland. She attended public schools in Perryman, MD and high school in Aberdeen, MD. Rose completed her college education at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, VA, and John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.


Rose worked as a production illustrator at Glen L.  Martin Aircraft Co. in Baltimore, MD, and as a part time draftsman at Eric G. Flannagan & Sons, in Henderson, NC.

While working at Glen L. Martins, Rose met Eric Flannagan Jr and fell in love. The two of them entered holy matrimony on October 6, 1945, at the end of World War II. They moved to Henderson where Eric entered the practice of architecture with his father.


She was a lifelong Episcopalian and attended church at the Historic Spesutia Church 1671, in Perryman, MD, and The Church of the Holy Innocents' in Henderson, North Carolina. Rose was very involved with the Episcopal Church. At Holy Innocents' she served as Church School teacher, Altar Guild, and Episcopal Church Women. She was the first woman elected to the vestry and served several terms as a layreader.


For over thirty years she served multiple terms on the Diocesan Council, the Standing Committee, Conference Center Board of Directors, and as a Deputy to the National Churches General Convention.


Rose was a member of the Alma Club, the Henderson Garden Club, The Colonial Dames of America, and the Board of Friends of the Library.


Those left to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Kathleen Flannagan Brooks of High Point, NC and Christine Flannagan Barnes of Morehead City, NC; son-in-law, Stephen Brooks; grandchildren: Eric Porter Brooks and Stephanie Brooks; great-grandchildren: McKenna, Josie, Nicholas, Samantha Brooks, and Brooks Grove.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel and Robert Cronin Jr; her husband, Eric G. Flannagan Jr; sisters, Nancy Leigh Osborn and Helen Veith; and a brother, Robert Barrington Cronin.


A special thank you goes to her caregivers Debbie Dennis & Connie Daniels who tirelessly took care of her for several years.
