Ronald Dawson

Obituary Ronald Wayne Dawson, 76, of Swansboro, NC, died Monday, September 19, 2016. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at the Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church, with Pastor Scott Berry officiating. Ron, as he was known by most family and friends, was born on July 2, 1940, in Gibsonville, NC, to Glenn and Flora Dawson. He graduated from Gibsonville High School as class salutatorian. After high school, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge when his term of service ended. After his discharge, he began his lifelong career working in various positions for the US Postal Service in the cities of Riverside and Santa Rosa, CA. After his retirement, he moved to the Outer Banks of NC which he dearly loved. He was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and long walks on the beach, visiting family and friends, cooking, and researching and documenting his family's ancestral history. He is survived by two sisters, Shirley Hartman of Burlington, NC, and Anita Gentry and her husband Clyde of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Donald Dawson of Kansas City, MO; and a plethora of nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Eleanor Isley; and two nephews, Robert Green Dawson and Michael Watson.
