Obituary MSGT Robert L. Nichols (Ret.), 74, of Swansboro, formerly of Greensboro, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Carteret General Hospital, Morehead City. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Forest Hill Church, 7224 Park Road, Charlotte, N.C., with the Rev. Jason Smith, officiating Mr. Nichols was born February 8, 1940 in Lynchburg, VA to Addie Lee Nichols and Mary LeFew Nichols. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. He retired after 21 years of service as a Master Sergeant. After his military service, he worked as a Maintenance Manager in the transportation industry. For the past 10 years, he and his wife, Barbara, lived in Swansboro. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Purgason Nichols of Swansboro; two daughters, Melissa Bouffard and husband, John Paul, of Greenbrook, N.J. and Pamela Burrus and husband, Jeff, of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Joseph and Samuel Bouffard and Robert and Mitchell Burrus. His parents preceded him in death. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
