Obituary Robert Minturn Lewis, 91, of Beaufort, died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at his home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, at Carteret Memorial Gardens, Beaufort. The Rev. Theodore Lewis will officiate. He was born in Mineola, NY on August 23, 1924 to Edward Lewis and Margaret Longstreet Lewis and raised in West Hempstead, NY. Mr. Lewis was a graduate of Cornell University where he obtained a Masters Degree. He was a retired marine biologist having been employed with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration on Pivers Island. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Beaufort. He is survived by his wife, Joyce von Mechow Lewis; sons, Andrew Lewis of Fuquay-Varina, David Lewis of Beaufort, and Philip Lewis of Fuquay-Varina; brother, Theodore Lewis of Germantown, MD; grandchildren, Anderson Lewis, Cameron Lewis, and Caroline Lewis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Five Loaves Mission at First Baptist Church, 403 Ann Street, Beaufort, NC 28516.
