Robert Jay Haines, Sr.

Robert "Bob" Haines, Sr., 92, of Morehead City, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at his home.


Bob and his beloved twin brother, Rich, served together in the USMC during the Korean Conflict. In 1950, he began his long forty-three-year career with Joy Manufacturing in New Philadelphia, Ohio, in the plant’s foundry eventually becoming foundry foreman. He was later promoted to Manufacturing Manager and then transferred to the LaGrange Division of Joy Manufacturing, in LaGrange, NC in 1977. When Crouse-Hinds division of Cooper Industries acquired Joy Manufacturing, Bob served as Operations Manager at the LaGrange plant until his retirement. In 1999, he and his wife, Celia, moved to Morehead City where they could be near the beautiful beach and ocean they loved.


Bob received many awards of merit during his career, including the Presidential Citation by Chairman and President J. W. Wilock of Joy Manufacturing, for outstanding achievement and contribution to the success of Joy’s Cost Improvement Program. He was past President of Hammock Place Brandywine Bay Home Owners Association. Bob was also very active in the neighborhood projects and assisting neighbors with home projects. He was a member of the Lions Club; First Methodist Church; Methodist Men’s Organization; and Stanley Harrell SS. Class. He also assisted with blood drives and served with many other church activities.


A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at First Methodist Church of Morehead City with Pastor Powell Osteen officiating.  A recording of the service will be posted on Bob's obituary page at www.noebrooks.net


Bob is survived by his wife of forty-six-years, Celia Daniel Haines; three daughters, Betsy (Wayland) Sumerlin, Celia (Coby) Farley, Christine (Shaune) Hatley; son, Brooks (Julie) Moye; eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by parents, Leonard and Ferne (Willis) Haines; twin brother, Richard “Rich” Haines; brother, Donald “Bud” Haines; sisters, Bonnie Feiazli, Norma Haines; first wife, Patricia Ricklic Haines; son, Robert J. Haines Jr.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Methodist Church of Morehead City, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557;  Gentiva Hospice,  662 W. Corbett Ave. Swansboro, NC  28584 or a charity of your choosing.


The family would like to extend a special thanks to Gentiva Hospice Chaplain, Rev. Patrick Whaley; nurses Haylei Brown (all others); aides/caregivers, Darlene Fergerson, Julie Choate, to name a few.
