Robert 'Jackie' Jackson Matthews

Obituary Robert "Jackie" Matthews, 76, of Morehead City, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. Jackie was a Veteran of the National Guard. He was best known for being the owner and operator of Matthews Shoe Repair. His first location was in Havelock for 20 years, then he moved the business to Morehead City where he operated for an additional 25 years. He enjoyed being on the water and was often referred to as an "Old Salt". His love of the water included fishing, and its been said he could bring back a large spread of flounder. He was a kind man, loving husband, loving father, and he loved the Lord. A celebration of Jackies life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home in Morehead City with Pastor Manly Rose officiating. Jackie is survived by his wife of 54 years, Twyla Matthews of the home; sons, Robert Jason Matthews and his wife Julie of Elkin; Jeffrey L. Matthews of Morehead City; granddaughter, Elizabeth Harris of Cullownee; brother, Howard Matthews of Newport; sisters, Billie Bell of Swansboro; Zelma Dixon of Newport; Vivian Baswell of Morehead City; and a host of extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ruby Matthews; and two sisters, Ida Mae Mills; Elizabeth Settle. The family requests no flowers.
