Obituary Captain Richard "Dick" Carlyle Thomas, of Beaufort, and formerly of Roanoke, Va., and Burlington, set sail on his final voyage on August 8, 2017, at the age of 94, with his beloved poodle, Bud, by his side. A celebration of Dicks life will take place at his home on Saturday, August 19, at 11:30 AM. Dick was an avid sailor, dancer, and photographer. His love for capturing memories on film grew from the business he owned in Burlington, Camera Corner, which evolved into Camcor Inc., where he worked for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Millie (Sigmon); parents, Thelma Kelley Thomas and Eugene E. Thomas; brother, Buck Thomas; sister, Marie Thomas Ayers; nephew, Michael Thomas Ayers; brother-in-law, Bob Barnette; sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Lib" Yount and husband, Charles; and, sister-in-law, Sally Cline. Dick leaves behind many family members, including sister-in-law Mary Sue Barnette; brother-in-law, Frank Cline; nine nieces and nephews, and their families. In addition to his family, Dick will be missed by countless "kids" he and Millie befriended over the years. The Captain will forever be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit, his love of beach music, and his special recipe for "cherry delight" dessert. His legacy lives on in the life lessons he taught his sailing students aboard the Sailwind, and the generosity he showed his family, friends, employees and customers.
