Obituary Richard Stephen Muller, CDR, USCG, (Ret.), 65, of Morehead City, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at St. Egbert Catholic Church at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Thomas R. Davis officiating. Commander Muller was born in Seattle, Washington on October 19, 1948, to Lawrence and Joyce Kimball Muller. He graduated from Nathan Bedford Forrest High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and, in 1970, joined the U. S. Coast Guard, and retired in June, 1993. He graduated with an Engineering degree from the U. S Coast Guard Academy and a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Illinois. Cdr. Muller was the last Commanding Officer of the U. S. Coast Guard Cutter Chilula. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen Morton Muller; 3 sons, David Muller of Lumberton, Robert Muller of Morehead City and Timothy Muller of Cary; his daughter, Carolyn Rodgers of Raleigh; 3 sisters, Anne Newland, Kathleen Murphy, Lorraine Muller and 2 brothers, Andrew Muller and Lawrence Muller, all of Jacksonville, Florida; and 9 grandchildren, Thomas Alexander Gillpin, Jessica Lynn Muller, Walton Jay Muller, Andrew Jennings Muller, Tucker John Muller, Mary Catherine Muller, Ava Grace Rodgers, Henry William Rodgers, and Benjamin McNeil Rodgers. In addition to his parents, his brother, Christopher Muller preceded him in death. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, August 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 PM at Brooks Funeral Home. The family request that memorials be made to the Carteret General Hospital Foundation for Raab Oncology Clinic, P. O. Drawer 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557.
