Morehead City

Richard Alfred Fritz passed away on September 20, 2024, in Morehead City, NC, at the age of 74. He was born on May 8, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio.

Fritz's passion for art and science was reflected throughout his life and career. After earning a BS from the University of Montana and a Masters from East Carolina University, he dedicated many years to teaching various levels and branches of science at the high school level. Beyond his professional life, Fritz was a gifted artist whose sculptures often depicted historical events, particularly from Native American history. His recent works captured natural aquatic scenes, showcasing his profound connection to nature. He cherished trips to the aquarium and Sunday FaceTime calls with his grandkids.

Fritz enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War, although an injury in an assault post-boot camp curtailed his military service.

Fritz's hobbies included watching historical documentaries and nature shows. An avid fisherman, he cherished the coastal life in North Carolina. In his final months, he worked on a sculpture of a turtle swimming near a coral reef. He also enjoyed cooking recipes from Julia Child.

Fritz is survived by Vicki, his wife of 50 years; his older son, Jo and his family; Amy and Zoe; his younger son, Isaac and his family, PinPei, Maika, and Luka; a beloved brother-in-law Jon Hilson and his family, Paulette, Cheally, and Misty; his niece, Bobby Jean Comeaux and her family; a nephew, Justin Cash; as well as many cherished friends.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Mae Haslam, Alfred Fritz, Betty Fritz; his brother Mike; two sisters Lisa Cash and Kathy Fritz-McIntyre.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC. In remembrance of Fritz's life and loves, donations can be made in his honor to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or The NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, instead of sending flowers.
