Patricia Tilley

Obituary Patricia Mallison Tilley of Raleigh, 87, died peacefully at Rex Hospital on Sunday, September 11, 2016. Pat was born June 27, 1929, in Morehead City, NC. She graduated from Granby High School in Norfolk, VA, and attended Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, VA, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Gray Tilley; her mother, Kathleen Piner Mallison; her stepfather, Samuel Green "Gary" Garner; and her aunt, Lucille Piner Crump. She is survived by her son, Ken, Jr. (wife Joy), of Earlysville, VA. Pat and Kenneth, married for nearly 60 years, were truly soulmates. They spent a lifetime of shared love and especially enjoyed time spent together at their retirement cottage in Atlantic Beach. They were members of Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Whether it was playing bridge, singing in the church choir, taking business or pleasure trips and vacations, dining or visiting with her many friends, Pat loved people. No one was a stranger to her as she sparkled in getting to know others. She was renowned for her memory and her incredible gift for telling stories. She was a voracious reader and also enjoyed crossword puzzles, drawing, and, more recently, adult coloring books. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 at Bayview Cemetery, Morehead City, with the Rev. Dr. Alan P. Swartz, Senior Pastor of the Highland United Methodist Church, presiding.
