Obituary Patricia Dayle McClellan-Green, 59 of Morehead City passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Born November 20, 1954, Pat died unexpectedly after a brief illness. She was professor of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology in the Department of Biological Sciences at North Carolina State University. Stationed at the Center of Marine Sciences and Technology (CMAST) in Morehead City, Pats research focused on effects of chemical pollutants in coastal waters and survival of marine life, most notably oysters, blueback river herring and loggerhead sea turtles. Pat received her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1977 and Master of Science Degree in 1980 from East Carolina University and was awarded her Doctor of Philosophy Degree from North Carolina State University in 1989. Pat will be remembered most for her extraordinary patience and kindness; helping others to learn new things in order to achieve success and happiness. She coordinated the CMAST Undergraduate Summer Fellows Program and frequently mentored undergraduate and graduate students from NC State, Duke University and many other colleges and universities. Pat was actively involved in the community and served on the United States Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point Restoration Advisory Board in addition to the Board of Directors at the Coastal Academy for Technology and Science. She was recognized by Boy Scouts of America as Scout Leader and was a recipient of the Celtic Cross. She served as Church Elder on numerous committees and volunteer efforts. Pat was preceded in death by her sister, Bridgette McClellan and stepfather, John Earnhardt. She is survived by her mother, Frances Earnhardt and sister, Marsha McClellan of Concord and her husband of 32 years, David Green and son, Joseph Green of Morehead City and son, William Green of Raleigh. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at Brooks Funeral Home & Crematory of Morehead City. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 23 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Morehead City with Rev. Matt Henderson officiating. Interment of ashes in the church columbarium will be held prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Opportunity School in support of scholarships for economically disadvantaged students.
