Ola 'Jinx' Campbell

January 7, 1922 — February 7, 2018

Obituary Ola Adelle "Jinx" Campbell, age 96, passed at Harborview Health Care Center in Morehead City, NC on February 7, 2018. Jinx is survived by 2 children, Barclay William Campbell of Oklahoma City, OK and Kelly Sue Campbell Hill of Dudley, NC, along with 3 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ransom Campbell Jr. and a son, Mitchell Alden Campbell. There will be a memorial service on a later date. Jinx, as she was known by all, was born on January 7, 1922 in Fayetteville Arkansas to Arthur Alden and Irene Engels Stearns. She served in the US Navy during WWII as an air traffic controller stationed in Lake City, FL. It was there that she met and married a young radioman, Bill Campbell. They enjoyed touring with big bands: Bill playing Bass while Jinx was lead singer. They moved to Ada, Oklahoma to attend college, and in 1947 left for Tulane University in New Orleans. From there they went to Raleigh, North Carolina, where Bill finished his architecture degree. On a train through Baton Rouge in the early 1950s they met Frank Lloyd Wright and his wife. Their influence was seen in Jinxs love of interior decorating, especially in her preference for colorful geometric designs. Jinx loved to cook and shared her talent by teaching classes. In 1959 they moved to Jinxs hometown where they adopted three children before Bill's career took them to the University of Hawaii in 1965. In 1968 they moved again to Norman, Oklahoma where they stayed to raise their family. In 1987 they made one final move to Morehead City, where they were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary before Bills passing in 1996. Jinx enjoyed traveling in later years, taking cruises, and even trips as far away as Paris and Moscow. On May 4, 2011, Jinx traveled with other WWII veterans from New Bern to Washington DC on the Honor Flight.
