Norine Moreland

Obituary Norine Ann Moreland, 70, of Morehead City, passed away Friday July 28, 2023, at her home. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday August 8, 2023, at First Freewill Baptist Church of Morehead City, with Pastor James Bradley officiating. Interment will follow in Bayview Cemetery. Norine worked for an ambulance and rescue team in Pennsburg, PA, a school bus driver in Upper Perkiomen school district, and part time for the American Coach Bus Company. Norine had her sixteen hundred ton mates license for the North Carolina Ferry at Cedar Island and Cherry Branch. In past years, she worked at Don Morris's Outer Banks Ferry Service in Atlantic and was a Captain on one of his boats. She also worked as Captain on the Miss Ann going from Davis to Core Banks with Algier Willis's Ferry Service. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Morehead City. She is survived by her sister, Catherine Shewell (John Reithmayer), brothers, Richard Shewell (Debbie), James Shewell (Suzanne), close friend and caregiver, Bettie Purifoy, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends. Norine was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mildred Shewell; and sister, Christine Alm.
