Obituary Nellie Smith Gould, 96, of Morehead City, North Carolina and formerly of Cape Carteret, North Carolina and Killingly, Connecticut died after a short illness on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City. She was born on December 10, 1918, to the late Henry L. Smith and Faustina DuBois Smith in Killingly, Connecticut. She was united in marriage July 21, 1944 to the late James Alfred Gould. She is survived by a daughter, Amy L. Gould of Gibson Island, Maryland, a son, Jay L. Gould of St. Petersburg, Florida and a grandson, Andrew J. Gould of Richmond, Virginia. She is also predeceased by her nine siblings, Leonard, Clifford, Robert, Dorothy, Ruby, Louise, Mildred, Julia and Laurens. Mrs. Gould was a graduate of Killingly High School. Upon completion of her education she worked as an assistant in the Killingly High School guidance counseling office and as the branch managers executive assistant at the Danielson Federal Saving and Loan Association in Danielson, Connecticut. Through her life she was athletic and creative. She was an outdoor person who enjoyed skiing and skating in New England and golf at the Star Hills Golf Course in Cape Carteret. She was an accomplished knitter, seamstress, and weaver. Many of the decorations in her home had been woven by her on her loom and attire from square dance dresses to prom gowns had been styled and tailored by her. She was an avid reader and a competitive word puzzle solver and loved to play computer Solitary and Free Cell on her computer right through her last days. The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation for the exceptional care and love that she received from Crystal Bluffs Rehab and Health Care Center where she resided and especially to Friendly Caregivers who gave her the confidence and companionship to thrive after the passing of her husband. She is a member of the North Foster Baptist Church in Foster, Rhode Island. A private family celebration will be held at a future date in Connecticut.
