Obituary Nancy E. Hibbs, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the Crystal Coast Hospice House on September 25, 2023, in Newport, NC. She was born to Clarence and Rosa Thurber on August 16, 1926, in Pawtucket, RI. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Newport, NC. Nancy was known for her kindness and generosity, not only within her family but also within her community. She was always the first to offer help when needed and was known for her warm, welcoming smile. Nancy was a loving wife to the late Hawkins W. Hibbs, Sr., and a devoted mother to her three children, Hawkins Hibbs, Jr., David Parker Hibbs, and Lisa G. Hunter. She was also a beloved sister to Clarence Thurber, Jr., Alonzo Thurber, Dorothea Palmisciano, Helen Yonker, and Joanne Williams (Prescott). Nancy's professional life was marked by a dedication to service, which was exemplified by her role as a Supervisor at the Rhode Island Registry of Motor Vehicles, where she later retired. Her colleagues remember her as a diligent and reliable team member who always went the extra mile to ensure that tasks were completed to the highest standard. Her work ethic was truly inspiring and left a lasting impression on all those who had the pleasure of working with her. In her personal life, Nancy found great joy in simple pleasures. She was an avid reader and could often be found with a book in her hand, immersed in a new adventure or mystery. She also had a green thumb and loved spending time in her garden, nurturing her plants with the same love and attention she gave to her family. Above all, her family was her greatest joy. She dedicated herself to creating a loving and nurturing environment for her children and grandchildren. Nancy's kindness, generosity, and loving nature were evident in every aspect of her life. She had the unique ability to make everyone feel special and loved. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on through her children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched. She is survived by her sons, Hawkins Hibbs, Jr. and David Parker Hibbs and his wife Carlene, and her daughter Lisa G. Hunter and her husband James. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hawkins W. Hibbs, Sr., her parents, Clarence and Rosa Thurber, her brothers Clarence Thurber, Jr., Alonzo Thurber, and her sisters Dorothea Palmisciano (Anthony), Helen Yonker (John), and Joanne Williams (Prescott). Nancy will be remembered as a woman of grace, kindness, and generosity. She was a beacon of love and warmth, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her spirit will continue to live on through the love she shared with her family and friends.
