Michael Robert "Mike" Murray passed away on March 13, 2025, in Knightdale, North Carolina. Born on March 22, 1973, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Mike lived a life filled with passion, adventure, and deep connections with family and friends.
Mike pursued higher education with distinction, earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before obtaining a Juris Doctorate from New York University School of Law. Though he passed the New York bar exam to become a licensed attorney, his talents and academic achievements eventually led him to a successful career in finance as a Vice President in Sales Management and Global Equities at Goldman Sachs in New York. Mike found great fulfillment in his work.
Beyond professional accomplishments, Mike was known for his adventurous spirit and enthusiasm for life. He loved biking through scenic trails, exploring new restaurants, taking friends and family out on boating excursions, and traveling to unique destinations around the world. A devoted sports enthusiast, Mike was a passionate UNC Tarheels basketball and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His competitive nature extended to fantasy football and basketball, where he proudly held the title of "the best fantasy sports commissioner to ever live"—a self-proclamation backed by his consistent victories with his beloved Brown Hornets teams.
Mike loved God and accepted Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Brooklyn and attended Bold Church in Charlotte. Mike cherished his family. He adored his wife, Rebecca Murray, and their daughter, Makayla Murray. His mother, Geraldine Murray; brother Ralph Murray; and sister Cindy Murray also held special places in his heart. Mike was predeceased by his father, Robert Murray, and brother Anthony Murray. In addition to immediate family members, he leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at God's City of Refuge in Newport, North Carolina (953 Hibbs Road), with Pastor Willie Murray, Jr officiating. Burial will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens in Beaufort. A viewing will be held from 11:00 to 11:45 am Thursday at the church. The service will be live streamed to the funeral home website at noebrooks.net.
Mike’s legacy of love, laughter, and adventure will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn while celebrating the incredible life he lived.
