Obituary Matsy Leary Phillips, 90, of Morehead City, died Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Carteret Health Care A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, Morehead City, with Rev. Sarah Williams and Rev. Patrick Whaley, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the service. Matsy was born in Goldsboro to Alan Tillery Leary and Emily Louise Marriner Leary. Her most important role in life was being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda L. Hughes and husband, Larry, of Morehead City and Georgia P. Kennedy and husband, Bill, of Clemmons; two sons, Willis J. Phillips and wife, Dianne Willis, of Morehead City and George Daniel Phillips, Jr. of Morehead City; 7 grandchildren, Joe Kennedy, amanda K. Littleton, Jackson Phillips, Jenny P. Toney, Elaine Hughes, Erica Hughes, and Lauren Martin and 10 great grandchildren, Julia, James, Caroline, and Anna Littleton, Ridge and Liv Toney, Ava and Natalie Martin, Caroline and Jack Phillips. In addition to her parents, her brother, Alan T. Leary, Jr. and sister, Margaret Marriner Corr, precedes her in death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 900 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 The family would like to thank the Crystal Bluffs staff and also the Brookdale staff for all the caring and love they gave our mother.
