Obituary MaryAnn Aiken, 82, of Morehead City, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015, at Carteret General Hospital. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 19, 2015 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Dr. John B. Pollock officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. She had a career as a Registered Nurse for over 25 years at Carteret General Hospital. She worked as an Operating Room Nurse along side her husband Bill, an anesthetist. In 1970, she was asked to come to Wilmington to help develop the operating room while New Hanover Memorial Hospital was being constructed. When she returned to Carteret General Hospital, she developed the IV and Nutritional Assessment Teams. She was very proactive in showing dogs and earned championships in doing so. She also trained dogs in obedience and prepared them for the ring. She is survived by a son, Walter Stephen Aiken, his wife, Teresa, and grandchildren: Carmen, Matthew, and Loren as well as a daughter, Janet Aiken Lott, and grandchildren: Meghan Clonts, her husband, Chris, and great grandchildren Hayden and Joah; grandson, Rob Styron and wife, Kelly. She is additionally survived by a brother, Jim Highwart. MaryAnn is also survived by her beloved Keeshond, Niko. Her parents Chris and Mary Highwart, her husband William Stephen Aiken, and her brothers Ron, Jack, and Tom Highwart, preceded her in death. The family will receive friends in the church parish hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carteret General Hospital Foundation for Cancer Services Fund, P.O.
