Obituary Mary Virginia Rowles Brown, 87, of Morehead City, died Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. A Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 1, 2018, at St Andrews Episcopal Church, Morehead City with the Rev. Dr, John B. Pollock officiating. Virginia was born in Baltimore Highlands, MD to George H. and Margaret A. Rowles. The family moved to Morehead City in 1939. She graduated from Morehead City High School in 1947. She met her husband Dan Ray Brown while as a student at East Carolina College, where she was a band member and graduated with a B.S. degree. She taught for three years in Havelock and 24 years at Camp Glenn Elementary School in Morehead City. She became interested in antiques and had a shop with Sammy Cordova for eleven years. Travel was something she and her husband liked doing which included trips to Europe and Australia. She was a member, participant or an officer in the following organizations; NC Education Association, Alpha Delta Kappa, Fidelis Delta, The History Place, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of 1812, National Genealogical Association, along with various other state genealogical societies. She was a charter member of the Carteret Friends of the Library and a fifty year member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She is survived by two sons, James R, Brown, of Morehead City and Daniel G. Brown of New York City, NY; two grandchildren, Kelley Byrd and Leslie Barbour; three great grandchildren, Tyler Plank, Khloe and Zane Byrd. The family will receive friends at Brooks Funeral Home on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Her parents, and her husband, preceded her in death.
