Mary Upchurch

Obituary Mary Stanley Upchurch, 83, of Morehead City, died Friday, October 28, 2016, at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville. A funeral service will be held at the Wildwood Presbyterian Church, 340 Wildwood Road, Morehead City on Wednesday, November 2 at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Robbie Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at the Wildwood Community Cemetery. She was born to Thomas and Eva Stanley in Columbus County, North Carolina on December 21, 1932. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Upchurch, with whom she had one son, Steven Dale Upchurch. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Marie Upchurch Perry, granddaughter Darby Marie Upchurch, sisters Geneva and Cleo, brother Thomas and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by brothers Robert, Fred, and Ethridge and sister Delpha. Having grown up on a farm, Mary was an avid and experienced gardener who grew a large variety of amazing vegetables and lovely flowers, making it look easy. Mary was loved and admired by those who knew her. She was very active as a volunteer with the Tax Aid Program, the Humane Society, Helpline and other non-profit organizations. She quietly assisted those in need. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Mission of Carteret County, P. O.
