Obituary Mary Louise Franklin Lauve, 72, of Morehead City, died Saturday, September 12, 2015, at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Egbert Catholic Church on Friday, September 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM, with the pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Davis, officiating. She was born in Jamestown, NY, on January 22, 1943, to Austin and Marie Louise Schumacher Franklin. Mary Lou graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart High School, Greenwich, CT, Class of 1960. She graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart, Newton, MA, Class of 1964, with a BA in psychology/theology. Mary Lou also graduated from Manhattanville College-1966, earning a degree in Masters of Arts in teaching and psychology. She married James E. Lauve on June 28, 1970, in Washington, DC. She had a lifelong passion for teaching and caring for children. Mary Lou was a teacher at the following schools: Fox Run Elementary School, Norwalk, CT, grades 1-3 (1966-1968) (1969-1970), Sacred Heart Elementary School, Pascagoula, MS, grade 2 and Religious Education (1968-1969), Mount Rainier Elementary School, Mount Rainier, MD, Grade 2 (1970-1971), Molly Stark Elementary School, Bennington, VT, grades 3-4 (1971-1972), St. Egbert Catholic School, Kindergarten, (1981-1998). She was a volunteer at St. Egbert School (1978-1981 and 1999-2005). During high school and college, she participated in competitive horse showing. She was an avid camper, traveling to their honeymoon destination at the Peaks of Otter on the Blue Ridge Parkway each summer since marriage until her health prohibited it. Mary Lou was a dedicated dog lover for over 40 years. In 2002, she welcomed into the family her first Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Rhumba. Since then, she and Jim have owned 5 Cavaliers, all of which were recognized as champions in the shows they participated in across the east coast. Mary Lou has been an active Catholic since birth and worked in religious education throughout her life. The family would like to thank Carteret Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Alonzo Davis. She is survived by her husband, James E. Lauve of Morehead City; sons, John Austin and his wife, Cory Richardson-Lauve, of Richmond, VA, and Jimmy Lauve of Sylva, NC; brother, Austin Franklin and his three children, who reside in Harvard, MA; one grandchild, Noah Richardson-Lauve, age 8, of Richmond, VA. Mrs. Lauve was preceded in death by her parents. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at St. Egbert Catholic Church, with a Christian Wake Service at 6:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Egbert Catholic Church, 1706 Evans Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or Virginia Home for Boys and Girls, 8716 West Broad Street, Henrico, VA 23294.
