Obituary Mary Nelson, 79, of Cape Carteret N.C, originally from Merrick, NY, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2020 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House of Newport. To nurture and care for those around you is a calling, a gift. Mary was the rock that protected us from the waves. She was the warm comfort when you were cold. She was your protector but not afraid to tell you where you went wrong. If a life is measured in love then Mom left us full. We will miss her but she will never be far away. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2020 at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home of Morehead City with Father Tom Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Morehead City. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lee Nelson of Cape Carteret; son, Lee Nelson Jr. and wife, Tammy of Beaufort; daughter, Deborah Poe and husband, Curt of Durham; son, Michael Nelson and wife, Kim of Cape Carteret; six grandchildren, Caitlin, Kristen, Gavin, Lindsey, Ryan, and Owen; brother William McGrath and wife, Dale of Timber Lake, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary McGrath; brother, Joseph McGrath. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to your local Alzheimers Association.
