Obituary Mary Anne Fearrington Ragland, 78, of Emerald Isle, passed away, Friday, January 13, 2017, at home. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church, 920 Salter Path Rd., Salter Path, with the Rev. L. Everett Thomas presiding. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. A reception at the church will follow the service. Mary Anne was born in Winston Salem to Eric Cerile and Mildred Vogler Fearrington. She lived in Winston Salem until her sophomore year in high school, then moved to Kernersville and graduated from Kernersville High School in 1956. Mary Anne graduated from City Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. Her professional registered nursing career was spent at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Mary Anne married Joe R. Ragland, Jr., on August 23, 1959 and they lived in Chapel Hill until 2002. They have lived in Emerald Isle since 2002. She was a former member of the Chapel Hill Junior Service League; Church of the Holy Family; former member of the vestry and Senior Warden at St Francis by the Sea; active in Lay Ministry, Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women at St. Francis. She loved knitting, sewing, gardening, cooking, bridge and reading. She is survived by her husband Joe Ray Ragland, Jr.; two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Ragland McCauley and husband John, and Kellie Jo Ragland; three brothers, Eric Lindsay Fearrington and wife Dee, Richard Douglas Fearington and wife Carol, and William Edward Fearrington and wife Cynthia; two grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth McCauley and Connor Brookes McCauley. Her parents precede her in death.
