Mark Mancini Sr

Obituary Mark M. Mancini, a resident of Cedar Point, NC passed away at Crystal Coast Hospice House on August 19, 2018. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on September 15, 1932, son of Theodore and Clara Mancini. Mark graduated from GAR High School after a significant football career with academic merits. He continued his successful football career at Kings College graduating in 1955 with a degree in Accounting. Mark was invited to try out for the NFL but chose marriage and the Marines. After graduating from Kings College, he married the former Regina Godleski of Pringle borough, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he specialized in communications. During his tenure with Motorola Corp, he utilized his electronics background in a successful 20-year sales management career and rose to Vice President. Marks dream was to start his own company and in 1983 he founded 800 Cellular in New York City, one of the first cellular installation companies. During his long career in telecommunications, Mark sold two-way radio systems to police and fire departments, helped usher in the era of pocket pagers and was an industry leader when very large cellular telephones became the newest communications device. He was a true visionary predicting quite early that "every man, woman and child will one day carry a personal device the size of a pack of cigarettes". Mark retired to Texas and raised quarter horses with his wife, the former Janet Stewart of Chagrin Falls, OH. This was when he discovered his love of animals, not only horses but many family pets who brought joy to his days. Mark was a man who always lived life on his own terms and taught his children self-sufficiency, integrity and strength. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. Mark was preceded in death by his wives, Jean and Janet, and is survived by his children, Diane Williams and her husband, Gary, of Bellevue, WA; Karen Chin-Mancini of Union Beach, NJ; Mark M. Mancini II and his wife, Jill, of Emerald Isle, NC; and Douglas Mancini and his wife, Carole, of Chobham, Surrey England; and stepchildren Sharon Bury and her husband Scott of Wickliffe, OH, and Michael Brennan and his wife Joan of Oakridge, NJ. Mark is also survived by grandsons, Mark III, Jonathon, Scott, Martin Chin and Anthony Chin, and siblings Claire Lagoski of Swoyersville, PA, Ann Llewelyn of Glen Burnie, MD, and Alex Mancini of Glenside, PA. A service will be held at St. Mildreds Catholic Church in Swansboro, NC at 10:30 am on Saturday, August 25th.
