Marion Speed

Obituary Marion "Corky" Speed (nee Prout) passed away on June 19th, 2020 in Morehead City, North Carolina. She was born on February 25, 1932 in Troy, New York to George H. Prout and Freida Stryker Prout. Marion is survived by daughter Robbin Speed Gresens and son-in-law Douglas Gresens of Havelock, NC; granddaughters Lauren Speed Faleski and grandson-in-law Erik J. Faleski, Katherine Speed and Elizabeth Speed; and brother Harald Prout and sister-in-law Elyssa Prout. Marion was preceded in death by husband William P. Speed Sr, son William P. Speed Jr and daughter-in-law Eileen M. Speed. Marion attended Emma Willard School and Russell Sage College before meeting husband William Speed in the early 1950s. The couple moved due to Williams service in the military before settling in Hyde Park, New York where they raised their children. After her children went to college Marion worked for a fine home accents shop. After relocating to Beaufort, North Carolina, Marion was involved with the local historical society. She was a avid gardener, cook, decorator and entertainer. Marion was beloved by her children, grandchildren and community. A private outdoor memorial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 6, 2020 at the columbarium at St Pauls Episcopal Church in Beaufort, NC with Rev. Tambria E. Lee officiating. She will be interred alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Lakey Gap which provides an enriching summer camp experience for adults with severe autism.
