Margaret "Peggy" Tulevech

April 27, 1931 — January 14, 2018

Obituary Margaret "Peggy" Elaine Duby Tulevech, 86, of Morehead City, died Sunday, January 14, 2018, at her home. A funeral Mass is at 11 a.m. Friday, January 26 at St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City with pastor, the Rev. Thomas R. Davis, officiating. Peggy was born in Saratoga Springs, New York on April 27, 1931 to the late Dr. Mark Donald Duby and the late Mildred Bell Duby. She grew up in Schuylerville, New York and graduated from Schuylerville High School in 1948. Peggy received her BS and RN in nursing from Syracuse University in 1952. She worked at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City as a nurse and eventually Nursing Supervisor where she met the love of her life, Dr. Charles "Chuck" Tulevech Jr. They were married in 1956 and later settled in Old Field, New York where they raised their family and Chuck practiced Ophthalmology for over 30 years. During her time in Old Field, Peggy was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, where she taught catechism, and a volunteer member of the Ward Melville High School Music Boosters where she managed the sale of literally a tractor-trailer of Florida citrus fruit every Christmas. As Volunteer Nurse Coordinator of Three Village Meals on Wheels, Peggy played an active role in managing the organization as well as delivering meals on a regular basis. Peggy and her family spent summers at Point OWoods on Fire Island, New York where they were active community members for over 50 years and maintain close ties to this day. In 1995, Peggy and Chuck retired to Morehead City where they lived in Brandywine Bay. Peggy was an active member of St. Egbert Catholic Church. As a member of the Ladies Guild, she could often be found setting tables for luncheons or washing salad leaves by the pound for large gatherings. Her church dedication extended to St. Egbert Catholic School where she volunteered and taught introductory computer skills to kindergarteners - quite a novel job for an 80-year-old. Peggy also volunteered at Marthas Mission helping distribute food to those in need. Of course, being an experienced Meals on Wheels volunteer for many years in New York, Peggy became a dedicated volunteer driver delivering meals to home-bound seniors in Carteret County through the Leon Mann Jr. Enrichment Center and only resigned her duties when, older than most recipients, she became less nimble and required a cane for the delivery run. Peggy spent much of her time caring and serving the community, but her children and grandchildren were always the greatest recipients of her attentions. She was a spectacular cheerleader at football, soccer and lacrosse fields, track events and cross-country races, and volleyball matches; a loyal member of the audience at school musical performances, concerts, and dance recitals; a calm and patient driving instructor to numerous learner drivers and chauffeur to non-drivers; baby/dog/cat/rabbit sitter; and always a gracious source of wisdom and ever-present shoulder to cry on. Peggy was always up for a game of Hearts or Monopoly, and quick to ask, "what are you drinking?" when you arrived after 5 p.m. Her home has always been a place to congregate. As a teenager, the joke was if you slept too late, the coffee would be gone, since the neighborhood knew the door was always open.and the coffee was good. Peggy is survived by her daughter, Susan T. Scott and husband Buford of Wimbledon, U.K.; sons, Charles B. Tulevech III and wife Lisa of Cedar Point, and Steven M. Tulevech and wife Carol of Morehead City; grandchildren, Charlotte and Logan Scott, Steven, Grace, Charles IV, Maxwell and Jack Tulevech, Kailey and Mitchell Smith; several nieces and nephews; and brother, Mark Duby and wife Doris of Ballston Lake, New York. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Charles; and sister, Jane Duby Caldwell. The family will receive guests on Thursday, January 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home & Crematory in Morehead City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Three Village Meals on Wheels, P.O.
